Welcome to our blog from the first ever Not Just Hot Air podcast! In each of these segments we will pull out the key details from our latest episode, breaking them down section by section. Each episode will shed light on the things that matter most to you and your big industrial sheds.
Our first instalment has a deep dive into Pilot Group the business and exploring the incredible capabilities of a pioneering energy management system. Joining host Graham Reed for our first episode was Lee Morgan, the Managing Director of the Pilot Group, and Phoebe Baker, one of the senior account managers. Let’s dive in!
Background and Expertise
Lee Morgan, the Managing Director of the Pilot Group, brings a wealth of experience to the table. With 15 years in the HVAC industry, providing service and maintenance to retail customers across Europe, Lee recognised the potential of the Pilot Group’s energy management solutions. His passion for renewables and the opportunity to join a leading tech company in the field led him to his current role.
Phoebe Baker, a senior account manager at the Pilot Group, has been with the company for six years. Her expertise lies in the energy management side of the business, where she supports new and existing customers. Phoebe’s passion for the job and the savings achieved through energy management make her an invaluable member of the team. If you go searching on Google you may even find Phoebe hitting the news for just how much she has saved businesses across the industry (spoiler alert, it’s a lot!)
The Importance of Energy Management
Now, let’s delve into the core of the Pilot Group’s (our) business, energy management. The control system we offer is designed to integrate with gas heating systems and has a proven track record of delivering savings. Whilst we guarantee a minimum saving of 25%, the current average saving is an impressive 43%. The system employs various control strategies to achieve these reductions in energy consumption.
Looking towards the future, we are excited to explore new technologies that go beyond gas heating systems. We aim to expand our offering to include any high energy consuming items that you may come across in an industrial warehouse and beyond. The goal is to offer a comprehensive solution for reducing energy consumption across various sectors through not only our own solutions but also through a range of partners.
Partnerships and Collaborations
As we just mentioned, we understand that achieving sustainability goals requires collaboration with other industry players. We have formed partnerships with solar and compressor companies, as well as energy brokers and more to provide customers with comprehensive solutions. By addressing pain points and bringing in relevant partners, we aim to make our customers more efficient and environmentally friendly.
Moreover, we recognise the importance of grants and financial incentives in driving the adoption of renewable technologies. This is why we work closely with partners who specialise in securing grants for their customers, ensuring that the financial aspect does not hinder sustainability efforts.
Challenges and Opportunities
While larger companies are increasingly investing in sustainability and have dedicated budgets for renewable projects, smaller businesses often face challenges in initiating their sustainability journeys. Many lack awareness and knowledge about available grants and technologies. Our aim is to bridge this gap by offering an energy management system that is a cost-effective solution that saves resources and reduces environmental impact.
One of the main challenges in the industry is changing the perception that sustainability initiatives are costly and take a long time to offer a payback, whereas our system proves that sustainability can be a cost-saving measure, benefiting both the environment and the bottom line. However, we have found it takes time to build trust and convince businesses of the significant savings their system can achieve, even with a track record of over 3,000 installs globally.
The Role of Architects and Designers
Looking towards the future, it’s a hope to collaborate more closely with industrial architects but we are unsure how this looks. By involving energy management systems from the early design stages of large sheds and buildings, they can ensure optimal heating efficiency. While architects and designers are not yet actively seeking reaching out or seeking us, we hope to raise awareness so that we are seen as a go to place to even have a conversation around heating, sustainability and what can be done.
However, a mindset shift is necessary for energy efficiency to become a priority in building design. Currently, the focus is often on operational aspects rather than energy management. If we can, we want to change this by highlighting the long-term benefits and cost savings associated with our system and other technologies.
We love being at the forefront of the energy management industry, providing innovative solutions to help businesses reduce their energy consumption and achieve sustainability goals. It’s a pleasure each time we can work with a customer to see how valuable those savings can be and seeing the impact on their carbon footprint. By forming partnerships, raising awareness, and collaborating with architects and designers, we are actively working towards a future where energy efficiency is a top priority in all sectors.
We hope our dedication to the environment and our customers’ success sets us apart in the industry and if you would like to know how much you could save, head over to our savings calculator here.
